Saumur

A Saumur Landmark with a Remarkable Winter Garden

Welcoming travellers since 1837, Le Londres Hôtel & Appartements is one of Saumur’s long-standing historic hotels. Behind its traditional town-centre façade, individually decorated, air-conditioned rooms combine period character with contemporary comfort. The hotel’s most distinctive feature is its glass-roofed winter garden, framed by an elegant iron structure and now used as a breakfast room. With two self-catering apartments as well as hotel rooms, Le Londres offers a characterful stay just moments from Saumur’s historic streets, château and Loire riverfront

Nearly Two Centuries of Hospitality

Le Londres first opened around 1837 as the Grand Hôtel de Londres. In the 19th century, it became a well-known address for visitors to Saumur, including families travelling to see young officers training at the town’s cavalry school. Its history has followed the changing fortunes of the town ever since, and the building remains one of Saumur’s oldest hotels still in operation.

The property’s character is especially visible in its winter garden. The glass roof and iron framework evoke the engineering style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Restored and reopened in 2017, this light-filled space now welcomes guests for breakfast, giving an everyday hotel ritual an architectural setting of its own.

Today, Le Londres combines that heritage with a modern approach to hospitality. Its 30 air-conditioned rooms are individually decorated, while two separate apartments offer additional flexibility for families and guests planning a longer stay. A lift, a south-facing terrace and dedicated massage and wellbeing services add to the facilities, while the hotel’s central position makes it easy to explore Saumur on foot.

For visitors interested in the Loire Valley’s heritage, food and wine, Le Londres offers more than a convenient address: it is a historic Saumur institution whose own story forms part of the town’s character.

Breakfast Beneath the Glass Roof

The winter garden is one of Le Londres’ most distinctive spaces. Its Eiffel-style iron framework and glass roof create a bright, airy setting for breakfast, connecting the hotel’s historic architecture with its everyday life. It is a particularly good detail to look for in photographs: a feature that makes this hotel recognisable as somewhere specific to Saumur.

Rooms with Individual Character

Le Londres has 30 air-conditioned rooms, each decorated with its own personality while combining historic touches with modern comfort. The accommodation includes different room categories, accessible rooms and a family suite. For guests who need more space and independence, the two self-catering apartments provide an alternative to a conventional hotel room.

Explore Saumur on Foot

Le Londres is centrally located, close to Saumur’s pedestrian streets, restaurants and shops, with the château and Loire riverfront also within walking distance. After a day exploring the town or the surrounding vineyards, guests can return to the hotel’s terrace or enquire about its massage and wellbeing services. It is a practical way to combine a historic town stay with the freedom to discover the Loire Valley at your own pace.
