Hot Air Balloons – France

See France from above, at the pace of the wind

A balloon flight is the gentlest way to see a landscape: no engine, no hurry, only the wind and the view. Whether over rivers, vineyards, mountains or châteaux, France from above is something else entirely.

Two colourful hot air balloons float above the historic town of Saumur on the Loire, with the turreted château and church spire reflected in the calm river below on a clear summer morning.

Why a balloon

Balloons fly when the air is calmest, at sunrise and sunset, so every flight comes with the best light of the day. You travel with the wind, not against it, which is why the basket feels so still even as you move. And no two flights follow the same route: the wind decides where you go, and where you land

Your flight, step by step

A view looking up from inside a hot air balloon basket, showing a gloved hand operating the burner with an open flame heating the purple and red envelope above against a clear blue sky.

Inflation

The envelope fills with air, then the burner’s flame lifts it upright

Three hot air balloons float above the medieval château and church of Montreuil-Bellay on a sunny summer evening, their reflections visible in the calm river below.

Up, up and away

The ground falls away gently and stunning views open out on every side.

Two crew members in matching dark shirts and red caps work together to manage the rigging ropes of a red hot air balloon as it deflates on landing in an open field at dusk or dawn.

Landing

Down in a field, then a toast to the flight
